Ans- Labelling is the process of designing the label and  putting it on the package to provide information regarding the product, it contents, method of use , etc. The functions of labelling are explained as follows:
1. Describes the  product and specifies its contents-
a) Labelling enables the manufacturer to provide complete information about the product like instructions for proper use, date of manufacture and expiry, price, contents, etc.
b) For example -Package of Maggie noodles  describes the procedure of cooking noodles, Package of a brand of coconut oil describes  the product as pure coconut oil with Hina , Amla,  Lemon, etc.
2. Identification of the product or brand-
a) Labelling helps in  identification of the product from the various products available in the market.
b) For example- One can easily identify Cadbury chocolate from the various chocolates kept on the shelf of a shop by its  colour or label , The name Ariel printed on the detergent powder helps us to know the detergent powder out of the various types is Ariel.
3. Grading of the products-
a) Labelling enables the manufacturer  to grade its products into different categories according to their features or quality .
b) For example - HUL differentiates its three types of tea with 3 different coloured labels like Green Label, Red Label and Yellow Label.
4. Helps in promotion of the products-
a,) A good label can attract attention of the customers and stimulate them to buy the product.
b)For example- Many labels provide promotional message like" Chamak Aisi Nayee Jaisi "of a popular detergent powder , labels also play an important role in sales promotion schemes like on the packet of Colgate it's written Save  Rs 10 or 40% extra free, etc.
5. Providing information required by law-
a)Labelling performs the function of providing information required by law .

b)For example - The statutory warning on the packet of cigarettes "smoking is injurious to health " and on the product of pan masala" Chewing tobacco is injurious to health". In case of poisonous or hazardous material, appropriate safety warning  needs to be put on the label.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
