Q.21 Explain the types of cooperative societies. (6)
Ans- 1. Consumer Cooperative Societies-
a) The consumer cooperative societies are formed to protect the interest of the consumers. It aims to provide the good quality products at reasonable prices.
b) The goods are purchased in bulk from the wholesalers and then sold to the members and this reduces the cost of the products. If any profit is earned, then it is distributed amongst the members in their capital contribution or purchases made by them.
2. Producers Cooperative Societies-
a It was formed with the aim to protect the interest of small producers and provide raw materials, equipments and other inputs to the members at lower prices.
b)The output may be sold by the members of the society and the profit earned is shared by members on the basis of their contributions towards the total production or sale of goods.
3. Marketing cooperative societies-
a)They are established to help the small producers in selling their product . It eliminates middlemen and helps producers to secure a good market for the products.
b) The society takes care of packaging , warehousing and transporting so that the products can be sold at the best possible price and the profit earned from the sale of products is distributed among the members as per their contributions to the pool of output.
4. Farmers cooperative societies-
a) They are formed by the farmers with an aim to get better inputs at reasonable cost.These societies provide individual farmers the benefits of large scale farming and hence increases productivity.
b) They provide farmer members better quality seeds ,fertilizers, machinery and other modern techniques at reasonable prices.
5.Credit Cooperative societies-
a) They are established to provide financial assistance to its members at very reasonable terms. They collect money from its members as capital or deposits and then use the same funds to provide loans to its members at very low interest rates.
b) The main aim of such societies is to protect its members from the exploitation of money lenders who charge very high rate of interest on loans.
6. Cooperative Housing Societies-
a) They are established to construct houses for its members at reasonable costs.
b) Members pool in funds and acquire residential land and then either construct houses or provide plots to members so that they can construct houses of their choice. Members of the society have the options of paying in instalments rather than lump sum amount.
QUESTIONS:
1) Compare the status of a minor in JHFB with that in a partnership firm.(3)
2) 'Cooperative Societies exemplify democracy and secularism'. Explain.(3)
