I hope you all have understood the meaning, features, merits and demerits of partnership business till now. Now we will start the types of partners today.

Q.12 Explain the types of partners in brief.(6)
Ans- 1. Active Partner-
a) He contributes capital, shares profits and losses of the firm and has unlimited liability in business.
b) He is a partner who actively participates in the management of the firm on a daily basis.
2. Sleeping or dormant partner-
a) He is one who contributes capital and shares the profits and losses of the firm and has unlimited liability in business.
b) He  does not take part in the day-to-day activities of the business.
3. Secret partner-
a) He is one who is associated with the business but his identity is not disclosed to the general public.
b) He  contributes capital, participates in the management of the firm and shares profits and losses of the firm. He also has unlimited liability.
4. Nominal partner -
a)He is actually not a partner but only gives his name to the business firm. 
b) He neither contributes capital nor share the profits and losses of the firm. He does not participate in the management of the firm and has unlimited liability towards the debts of the third party.
5. Partner by estoppel -
a) He is not a partner of the firm  but through his behaviour or conduct gives the impression to the third party that he is a partner of the firm. He gives this impression unknowingly.
b) He has unlimited liability for repayment of debts of the firm which were extended under the impression of his being a partner . He does not contribute capital , share profits and losses of the firm and  does not participate in the management of the firm.
6. Partner by holding out-
a) He knowingly gives an impression to the third party through his conduct or behaviour that he is a partner of the firm.
b) He has unlimited liability for repayment of debts extended under the impression of his being a partner of the firm.He does not contribute capital, share profits and losses and participate in the management of the firm.
c) He can save himself from such liabilities only if he issues a notice of denial immediately that he is not a partner otherwise he will be liable for the debts of the firm.
